A great first step when beginning to use Canvas is to change your notification settings. By default, notifications are turned on. Watch the video below to learn more about setting notification preferences.

To set your notification settings follow these directions:

Log into your AASD Canvas account here. For directions on how to set up your account, return to the Welcome to Canvas Page.
Click "Account" in your global navigation menu and choose "Notifications."

Choose account on the left of your screen and then notifications.

Choose how you would like to be notified of Canvas occurrences. Within notifications, you have the option to be notified immediately, receive a daily summary, weekly summary or never to the email on your account.

Here are our recommendations:

For course Activities, turn off email notifications for all tasks with the exception of grading and submission comments. As a user, you can decide if you want immediate notification when assignments are graded, daily or weekly summaries.

We would also turn off email notifications for the following aspects. We would turn on email notifications for Conversations. This would mean you would receive an email when someone sends you a message within Canvas.

The only other items we would turn notifications on would be for administration notification or global announcements. These would be instances when the Appleton Area School District puts an announcement within Canvas.

As a user, you have control of how many notifications you receive to your personal email and which types of notifications you receive. You can add additional ways to be notified through SMS text messages or through the Canvas mobile app.
